Summary A demonstration of a group-work technique using peer assessment which teaches collaboration. Secondary pupils use research and creative skills to create a marketing campaign. The students at the President Kennedy School in Coventry work in mixed ability groups to develop a plan to promote tourism in London. First they're assigned roles within the group - leader, researcher, creative director and art director - and then choose a target audience such as families or pensioners. It's up to them to work together and use their research and creative skills to produce a presentation for the rest of the class to judge. The teacher has little influence as the others assess the style and content of each presentation. The lesson is observed by Philippa Cordingley, director of the Centre for the Use of Research and Evidence in Education. As she explains, the lesson is a good example of how to encourage social skills and assessment for learning
