Series Words And Pictures ; Series 1, Episode 7
Summary Vicky tells the rhyming story Forget-Me-Not by Paul Rogers (Picture Puffin, 1986) and Charlie and his friends play a memory game, trying to remember all the things that Sidney lost on his visit to Cousin Joe. A lost button is the theme and title of the story from Frog and Toad Are Friends (Worlds Work, 1971; Puffin Books, 1983). There is another word game in which Jumping Jack is provided with a set of clothes beginning with the same initial as his name. The magic pencil shows the correct way to write the letter 'j'.This series aims to encourage children in the early stages of reading, mainly through the enjoyment of shared stories, rhymes and reading practice; to help them to develop the skill of anticipation in reading for meaning; to demonstrate the differences in letter forms and 'sounds', concentrating on the consonants and blends in the initial position and using this letter knowledge as an aid to reading.Through the use of action, animation and imagery, the programs should sustain the children's desire to read while providing practice in using letter knowledge, language structure and contextual clues to develop mastery of the reading process.**Please note that this program/series has been created from masters kindly provided by DECS Tape Services in South Australia. These recordings have been collected over a period dating back to the early 1990s and as such, the picture quality may be of variable standard
