After keeping Gucci at the top of the game for over a decade, in 2004, Tom Ford and Domenico de Sole - the powerhouse duo who revived the stale brand in the late 20th century - stepped down due to breakdowns in contract negotiations. The fashion world was thrown into a tizzy, wondering who could step into their dauntingly successful shoes. Designer Alessandra Facchietti was brought in to design womenswear.
