Chiapas is a picturesque region in southern Mexico that is economically highly dependent on tourism and where even the Zapatista rebellion has become a souvenir that can be sold to visitors. This film is about the creation and performance of a local and 'ethnic' cultural identity for the edification of tourists. Carlos is an enthusiastic tour guide while Doña Rosa is an old indigenous woman who sells crafts in the market. Each in their different way is dedicated to providing what they think that tourists might be looking for
