Summary Parental memories of school offer important insight into parental behaviors and how families view schools. This study explored low-income parents memories of their formal primary through secondary schooling and how their educational histories guided their thoughts and decisions related to childrens schooling. This case study describes the full process of conducting this study and exploring this topic with parents of young children. Much attention is given to the behind-the-scenes work of addressing my researcher status, recruiting parents, and building rapport with participants, which is not described in the published manuscript of the study. I also reflect on some of the challenges and successes connected to the data collection and analysis pieces of the project
