Shelley Taylor and Lisa Aspinwall deal with psychosocial factors associated with chronic diseases such as cancer, hypertension, and rheumatoid arthritis and speak of health attitudes and behaviors as well as cognitive and behavioral interventions. Donald Wertlieb and colleagues present an overview of childhood diabetes and argue the usefulness of a stress and coping perspective. Gregory Harek tackles the pressing social issue of AIDS [acquired immune deficiency syndrome] and the social stigma that remains associated with it. Salvatore Maddi offers an existential perspective on the options and dilemmas brought about by technological advances allowing for extraordinary attempts to prolong life.
