| Summary |
This case study is based on my current PhD in Child and Youth Care (2012-2016). As part of the fulfillment of the requirement for the program, I embarked on a case study to evaluate a community-based child care and education intervention using narrative inquiry method. The purpose of this study was to investigate outcomes of the care and educational intervention set up for children of Magalasi and the surrounding villages. Magalasi Village is located in the rural area of Zomba District in Malawi, a nation in southeastern Africa. The study aimed to solicit perceptions, attitudes, and ultimately meanings that participants attach to this intervention through the stories narrated by individuals involved in this intervention at the community level. Data were collected from 35 community participants using conversational narratives and have been analyzed thematically.The study has generated findings that are of interest to all intervention partners regarding how the intervention, which is ongoing, is making a difference in the care and education of young children in Magalasi Village. Furthermore, the narrated stories have generated knowledge about other outcomes beyond the targeted objectives of the intervention. Outcomes and a brief discussion related to nutrition provisioning have been presented as practical examples. A good understanding of these bears the potential of informing intervention participants of the issues that need to be attended to strengthen the efficacy of the intervention |
