The nurse has an important role in caring for patients who receive moderate, or procedural, sedation before, during, and after diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This program focuses on intravenous administration of moderate, or procedural sedation as this route shortens recovery times and reduces risk for patients having minor surgery and endoscopic procedures. The purpose of this program is to provide nurses and others an understanding of monitoring and managing complications of moderate sedation, and the special responsibilities of performing moderate sedation on children
