This collection of papers provides a landmark publication for the Asia Pacific region. The Building Partnerships for Better Development conference was designed to examine what was happening with partnerships among universities, governments, NGOs, business and local communities. The conference theme recognised that not all development was good or necessarily in the public interest, and that collaboration through partnerships was the best option likely to provide for both economic and social development. The papers in this book provide a lively and interesting discussion on a range of topics, with numerous case studies under the rubric of community development. The papers have been selected from those presented at the conference, refereed by a panel, and edited to ensure quality control.
