Summary This case study is based on a partnership relationship between two organizations, that is, an international non governmental organization and community-based organization in Zimbabwe supporting children affected by HIV/AIDS. I begin by engaging with the case study selection process guided by the rationale to unravel how partnership working pans out between an international non governmental organization and community-based organization in a rural Sub Saharan Context where the majority of such children reside. Having identified the case, I discuss issues relating to negotiating access to the subject organizations and participants alongside the role of gatekeepers and personal professional networks. Thereafter, I engage with the importance of identifying relevant case categories to ensure the case study is researched in its "completeness" while highlighting the challenges of data collection with limited resources and in resource-constrained settings. Finally, I present lessons learnt from conducting the case study research
