Summary |
Summary: Over the years, the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London has hosted innumerable public interviews with prominent writers, often arranged to coincide with the publication of a new book and sometimes to take advantage of a foreign author's visit to England. Frequently the interviewer has also been a well known literary personality. Here Lisa Appignanesi interviews Angela Carter, whose writing, they agree, is hard to categorise. Amongst the topics of conversation are English fiction as a playground for the bourgeoisie, the imagery of the subconscious, the political aspects of her writing, the subverting of stereotypes, the use of fairy tales to reinterpret history, feminist issues and the writings of the Marquis de Sade |
