Summary Immigrants are compelled to accept less than satisfactory work and adapt to conditions in their new environment. Many individuals are then motivated to pursue immigrant- and ethnically-oriented entrepreneurship. This approach to generating income is enhanced by socio-cultural factors in the informal sector. Using the Nigerian ethnic groups social events organizing platform in the UK as an example, this case study examines the notion of entrepreneurial disadvantage, which leads ethnic individuals to opt for marginal entrepreneurial opportunities rather than unemployment. Entrepreneurship in a specific ethnic socio-cultural space reveals conditions under which an informal economy emerges in a developed society. But a particularly discerning, newly arrived immigrant has options available to him or her; these are either to stay and adjust or to exit and return home. Students are asked to choose from among several options for Josh, who recently moved to the United Kingdom from Nigeria to join his family
