Summary This case study formed the basis of the dissertation component of my Doctor in Education which I completed in 2016. The study was based on the insights of 15 career change teachers during their initial teacher preparation program and explored aspects of their transitions from their previous careers into teaching. The main research instrument comprised two interviews at different stages in the participants transitions. Much has been written about the case study as a research methodology, so this account focuses on just two main aspects I found particularly critical to the conduct of my study. The first aspect relates to the practical challenges of mounting a case study in an educational setting, particularly in terms of recruiting and retaining the study participants. The second considers the value of drawing on work done by previous researchers. Finally, this account illustrates how wonderfully generous those who participate in a case study can be with their sharing of experiences and insights
