Bowen's first local newsbulletin |
|
"Begun by ex-Maritimer Pat Weaver, it made its debut in 1975 in the form of 8 1/2 x 14 mimeographed sheets stapled together. In 1981, Bowen Island's Larry Reid purchased the paper and as editor and publisher, he loved to stir the pot of island politics and community opinion and his own strongly-held views peppered its pages. In 1988, Reid sold the Undercurrent to Eric Cardwell, owner and publisher of the Eastender and Westender newspapers who, with his team, gave the paper a more professional look. He sold to Metro Valley Newspaper Group in 1990 and in 1997, the Undercurrent was purchased as part of David Black's acquisition of 16 Lower Mainland newspapers." |
