Summary |
Feteera is an Egyptian restaurant owned by three brothers who have a passion for revolutionizing feteer, a traditional Egyptian pastry, into a globally-craved-for gourmet food. As a business, Feteera has a unique personality and is a differentiator in its market because of its continuous innovation. Th brothers have an opportunity to achieve their mission of making feteer into a globally-known food through the expansion of their business. But first, they must decide whether to start expanding locally or globally. Either way, many challenges will arise during the expansion process. These challenges include dealing with (1) company operations, (2) human resources, and (3) the legal and regulatory aspects of expansion. The case starts with an introduction to the challenges regarding the decision to expand the business. This discussion is followed with background information on how the idea of establishing Feteera evolved and which stage it has reached. Next is an industry overview, which puts in perspective the strategic alternatives facing the protagonists, of whether to expand and if so how to do that. Another section describes the available local and regional opportunities for franchising |
