Summary |
Polish-born animator Yoram Gross is best known for creating The Adventures of Blinky Bill, a series that rivals the popularity of Mickey Mouse in Australia. Unlike Mickey Mouse, Blinky Bill's colorful artwork hides a more complicated and traumatizing past. Blinky & Me recounts the artist's childhood as a Jew in Nazi-occupied Poland, where he spent his formative years under a blanket of horror and displacement. It tracks his escape from Europe and arrival to Israel, where he began creating animated films, and journeys along with Gross to his current homeland of Australia. The film discusses the influence of Gross's harrowing journey on his cartoons, providing context for an Australian icon |
