Summary In this text for undergraduate biomedical engineering students, Northrop (emeritus professor, biomedical engineering, University of Connecticut) explains the basic analog electronic circuit used in signal conditioning in biomedical instrumentation, and introduces basic mathematical tools used to describe noise and how it propagates through linear systems. He also explains how signal-to-noise ratio can be improved by signal averaging and linear filtering. The text is intended for use in a classroom course on analysis and application of analog electronic circuits in biomedical engineering for junior and senior undergraduates. Readers are assumed to have had introductory core courses in engineering mathematics and electronic circuits. Annotation : 2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
