"Harley Wood was Government Astronomer of New South Wales from 1943 to 1974, and one of the most successful directors of Sydney Observatory in its history. Coming to live in the Observatory as a young married couple in wartime, he and his wife Una raised their family there. This is the story of Harley and Una Wood - their origins, careers and family life. Central to the story is their partnership, sharing the problems and delights of living and working in a heritage building perched above Sydney Harbour, and the significant contributions made to astronomy in Australia over Harley's period as Government Astronomer. It is a truly Australian story |
