Summary Monumental Vision In Iceland tells the story of one man's vision to create a series of monumental outdoor sculptural works around the globe that will connect indigenous peoples to their ancient past through the construction of a set of symbolic geoglyphs.Australian artist Andrew Rogers has a goal to create 13 monumental and spectacular forms in some of the most remote locations on earth. Sculpture has become an all-encompassing passion for Rogers: "I spend probably a third of my time working at it, and the balance of any spare time thinking about it. You can burn up with it. And I do."Since commencing the art of sculpture, in his forties, Rogers has driven himself to produce 300 works in bronze, that dot galleries, courtyards and public sites around the world, however, recently Rogers' ambitions and visions have become grander...Iceland, one of the most northern countries in the world...only 25 miles from the arctic circle is the most active volcanic area on the planet with the largest waterfall and glacier in Europe. Here Rogers has been invited to Akureyri, one of the twenty largest cities in Iceland located at the end of the largest fjord in Iceland, to create a series of earth artworks to preserve their ancient Celtic/Viking mythology. The Icelanders' belief in elves and trolls is a carry- over from their early Norse religion and relationship with their Celtic thralls (slaves) who also held the same beliefs. Rogers will create a large Nordic eagle, which appears on the Seal of Iceland, and a Noridc rune symbol which means NOW. Both have significant meaning that reaches back into an Icelandic folktale The Guardian Spirits of Iceland. The cold sets in early and the site begins to get frosty and dangerously slippery. One site becomes accessible only by water across the fjord. The team struggles to complete the works before the snow sets in
