Born with a facial disfigurement called Apert Syndrome, Jess Lee from Liverpool, UK, had over 20 operations from the age of four months, to make her face 'fit'. Now she goes on an emotional journey to discover why she felt she had to change.In this moving documentary, 17-year-old Jess questions why she and so many others are on a seemingly insatiable quest to conform to the media's image of perfection. Jess starts her journey by reflecting on how she looked before her surgery. She goes on to meet experts to see if she can explain why people react so negatively to those who look different.Her journey leads her to meet a range of women who feel defined by their appearance, from 'normal' women who have undergone extensive cosmetic surgery and a model who feels that being beautiful has ruined her life, through to women who have made a virtue of looking different.
