The coastal heathlands near Anglesea, Victoria were chosen for a detailed study of the effect of the plant pathogen phytophthora cinnamomi. It was found that the pathogen has significantly impacted on heathland flora and fauna. Future research should be directed towards restricting the spread of the disease and rehabilitating diseased areas to conserve rare and endangered species and the high diversity present in the heathlands
