Summary |
"The volume tackles a number of critical dimensions of the Afghan conflict from a range of perspectives. It essentially explains the nature and complexity of the conflict at national and international levels. It makes a critical assessment of the performance of President Hamid Karzai and his government, and the efforts made by the international community, the US and its NATO and non-NATO allies in particular, to stabilise, rebuild and secure Afghanistan as a viable state. In this, it does not attempt to cover every aspect of the Afghan conflict. ...It primarily focuses on three major questions: how and why has Afghanistan reached its present point of crisis? Why has the US-led strategy to transform Afghanistan into a stable and secure state not been successful so far? Has enough been done in support of social justice, gender equality and the reconstruction of the country? This sets the context for also examining critically the role played by Australia in the conflict."--Preface and acknowledgements |
