Summary In A Quiet Word With... writer, broadcaster and comedian Tony Martin has exactly that with some of the entertainment world's biggest names. For half an hour, the self confessed 'comedy and film nerd' will talk shop with a filmmaker, actor or comedian, who may well be surprised to find themselves answering no questions about their private life and instead confronting long forgotten moments from their lengthy resume. In his first conversation, Martin leads the star of QI, Jonathan Creek and the new culinary comedy Whites, Alan Davies, on a rambling journey through the many twists and turns of his ramshackle career. Davies talks about how he got into stand up comedy to 'avoid real work' through to his unlikely second act as a hugely popular TV detective/magician's assistant, and on to his eight year turn as quizmaster Stephen Fry's whipping boy. Davies recalls losing the Edinburgh Fringe Festival's Perrier Award to Australians Lano and Woodley, talks candidly about how TV popularity ruined his comedy career, and details his attempts to stop 'my best work', Bob and Rose, from being wrenched off screen mid series. Plus, there's the full story of the remarkable genesis of the hugely successful QI.Following the popularity of last year's interviews with Bill Bailey and Carrie Fisher in the Tuesday Artscape timeslot, A Quiet Word With... moves to 9.30pm on Saturday nights with 10 new interviews to be presented.PRODUCTION DETAILSA QUIET WORD WITH is produced by International Skylarking Pty Ltd in association with ABC TV. Executive Producers: Greg Sitch and Tony Martin; Producer: Nikki Hamilton Cornwall; Director: Annie Maver. ABC TV Head of Arts and Entertainment: Amanda Duthie; ABC Executive Producer: Kath Earle
