Summary "An epic film spanning three generations. In 1910, in Maranhão, the insane Vasco de Sá moves with his pregnant urban wife Áurea and her mother Maria to a wilderness land near a lagoon and surrounded by shifting dunes. After he is killed in an accident, the pair is left without any resources and Aurea is desperate to get back to civilisation. They are supported by a local son of a former slave, Massu, who teaches them how to survive." -- website
