Summary |
Based on Dostoyevsky's tale of love and murder, this story takes place in the snowy northern Japanese island of Hokkaido. Kameda, a mentally fragile innocent incapable of dishonesty, meets Akama on his return home from an asylum. They become involved with the brash former concubine Taeko and the innocent Ayoko, leading to an intricate, complicated and ultimately tragic web of love, hate and human frailty |
