Summary |
"Born in 1599 the son of an upper class family, Van Dyck began his career as an apprentice to Hendrik Van Balem, whose "Romanist" influence on the young painter almost killed the artists's own creativity. However, after spending years painting mythological and religious scenes, Van Dyck finally realised that he wanted to paint the psychological aspect of man, and in fact he is today known as one of Europe's greatest portrait painters."--Container |
