"Management practices appear to be moving towards a new era. Intensifying global competition and rapid technological change, especially in information technology and communications, are just two of the influences combining to produce radical changes in the nature and structure of business, and indeed in the meaning and process of work itself. Management practices - and the theories upon which such practices are based - must respond rapidly to these changes so that the possibilities offered by this new era may be best grasped, and the challenges which it presents may be most appropriatley met.
