| Summary |
"Scientists are crossing into the shadowy hinterland between life and death by harnessing the power of the extreme cold to stop hearts in order to cure people. Pioneering surgeons have developed a way of putting patients into a state of 'suspended animation' by draining some of their blood from their body and cooling it until their heart stops, they induce clinical death. This gives surgeons a window of opportunity to operate on the brain without massive blood loss. They then warm the patient bringing them back from their clinical death unharmed. Crucially, it is the cold that stops the patient from suffering brain death. During the program we follow the cases of 28-year-old Brett Kehrer and 29-year-old Anna Bagenholm.
