Summary |
Five lectures on the theme of psychology and health were presented at the 1983 APA [American Psychological Association] Convention by leading scholars in the area of health psychology. Four of those lectures are presented in this volume--those of Joseph Matarazzo, Barbara Melamed, Richard Lazarus, and Gary Schwartz. These scholars probe the increasingly well-documented and complex relations between health and behavior. The thrust of these lectures, taken as a whole, is that new knowledge about the complex relationship between health and behavior is providing fertile ground for professionals in the bio-behavioral sciences. The cooperation of psychologists, physicians, and other health professionals will become increasingly important as the influences of behavior on physical health are more widely discovered and understood |
