Summary |
The initiative for this study was the recognition by the research team that young people coming to Australia from Kampuchea, Laos and Vietnam are both faced with, and create a complex array of difficulties, crises and challenges for educational services and many from situations of war, dislocation from family members and traditional lifestyle, and often considerable disruption to previous schooling, has endangered much disunion, debate and research. The aims of this report are : To fill an obvious gap in written material for sensitising, informing and promoting understanding of the problems facing students from Indochina now in Australian schools as a basis for a practical exercise in multiculturalism, To address the subjects educators have always wanted to know about Indochinese students, their past experience and cultural attitudes and to provide a comprehensive and practical working document for Australian educators, decision makers and auxiliary personnel involved in education in such areas as curriculum development, planning and co-ordination. In the absence of any information like it, it is anticipated that, as a jargon free working document it will be a resource for all personnel involved in education, and in turn, be of benefit to the youth from Indochina now living in Australia.
