Summary |
"The third episode of Extraordinary People follows people with the incurable, life-threatening Prader-Willi Syndrome, a brain malfunction which results in an insatiable appetite and a slow metabolism, causing victims to become severely obese if their eating is not controlled. Prader-Willi Syndrome affects about one in 20,000 people. It is caused by an abnormality of Chromosome 15. The part of the brain that controls appetite does not work, so victims feel constantly, insatiably hungry. The condition slows the metabolism, so the body only needs two thirds of the calories an average person requires, making it very easy to put on weight. The disorder is rendered yet more challenging for those with behavioural difficulties that are commonly attached to the Syndrome. (From the UK, in English)" -- website |
