Summary |
Kamel Daoud, Algerian French-language writer, takes us on a trip to Algeria. He is straight-talking and has a way with words. He neither compromises with the Algerian regime and its failures nor with Islamists who want him dead. He only shows a love of the country, its people, and the language. The vineyard, the Mediterranean, the place of women, religion, Oran the radiant, Algiers and power, the rebel Kabylia where revolutions are born, confiscated independence, a creative and joyful youth who dreams of blowing up an old "system". Along the way, little by little the portrait of a country is emerging, but also that of a man, born after the War of Independence, a figure of intellectuals in love with freedom and a voice that counts today |
