SAGE Business Cases
|
Summary |
The case follows the Saksham program, a corporate social responsibility imitative by the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) in the western state of Gujarat, India. Unlike typical CSR programs, the Saksham initiative directly serves the needs of one of GAIL's customers - the small and medium scale plastic industry. The Saksham program recruits young people from low-income communities and provides six month training to impart specific skills required for the plastic industry. Students are forced to consider if a corporate initiate targeted to serve the needs of their business customers can be classed as a CSR activity |
