Summary The Benedictine abbey of Monte Cassino in Italy was one of the most important monuments in the whole of Christianity. During the Second World War, the Allied forces controversially decided to bomb the abbey as they thought the Germans were using it for military purposes. This documentary reconstructs the political and military background behind the stalemate of the Anglo-American military campaign in Italy in 1944, the dramatic leadership errors and the mutual lack of trust between the Allied partners.
