Summary This example introduces Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA), which allows researchers to compare the means of a single continuous variable for 2 or more subsets of the data based on values of a categorical variable. The purpose is to evaluate whether the means for each subset are statistically significantly different from each other, while adjusting for one or more variables that might co-vary with the continuous variable of interest. This example examines whether performance on a general knowledge test in the Spring differs across three categories of family income, adjusting for student performance in the preceding Autumn
