A Boy Called Alex is the true story of cystic fibrosis sufferer, 17-year-old Alex Stobbs. He's a musical prodigy who has been playing the piano since he was three. His goal is to conduct Bach's great choral piece, The Magnificat, before an audience of 500 in the stunning 15th century chapel of his school, Eton.This is an ambitious task for any teenage boy, but for Alex the stakes are much higher. With each year that passes, his lungs and digestive system are slowly giving up on him and there is no cure.The inspiring film, A Boy Called Alex, chronicles the 12 weeks in which Alex attempts to achieve his incredible goal. The highs and lows of rehearsals, his battle against infection, the daily routine of physio and medication and the unpredictable nature of living with such an indiscriminate disease is highlighted. With unprecedented access to Eton College, and featuring interviews with those who know Alex best: his family, teachers and friends, this film offers an intimate insight into a gifted young man living on the brink and the effect his disease has on those around him.Over the years, the disease has attacked his bones and his hearing which is particularly distressing to any musician. Without the massive cocktail of drugs pumped into his bloodstream day and night, Alex would not be alive today.
