Summary NEW BRITAIN?The UK goes to the polls on Thursday 6th May, but there's a different look to this election campaign, as the political parties face the real possibility of a hung parliament with none of them having a majority. The Conservatives, led by David Cameron, are trying to modernise their traditional image by fielding candidates like the openly gay David Gold and black single mum Loanna Morrison. The Liberal Democrats, generally seen as the third party, are making the most of Cleggmania, following the success of leader Nick Clegg's appearance in one of the party leaders' TV debates. While the current Labour Prime Minister Gordon Brown is concentrating on continuing economic recovery, along with investing in schools, hospitals and policing.Video journalist Sophie McNeill reports from the campaign trail for Dateline.JAPAN'S OTHER VOICESFor years, the residents of the Japanese island of Okinawa have been calling for the United States to remove a number of sprawling military bases from their land. The locals blame US marines for sex attacks, accidents and assaults on the island. Just last week, protests over the bases drew up to 90,000 people onto the streets, demanding that the bases be closed. America says political relations with the Japanese are improving and that talks are under way to determine the future of the bases. The sticking point is exactly where the US presence should be located and it seems no solution will please everyone. INTERVIEW WITH WILL HUTTONLast October, UK author and commentator Will Hutton predicted on Dateline that David Cameron would be the next British Prime Minister. This week, George Negus asks him if he's still so sure, with Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg rising rapidly in the opinion polls, and many suggesting that Britain could elect its first hung parliament since 1974.But UK politics aren't the only thing hanging in the balance... the Eurozone is facing renewed crisis over what to do about Greece's huge debts, as Spain's credit rating is also downgraded. Some are calling this week's events a 'Lehman moment', which could trigger stage two of the GFC, taking Europe with it.Hear Will Hutton's take on the changing face of European politics and finance.International current affairs with George Negus.
