Summary |
Agent Moura tells the story of Baroness Moura Budberg, a supposed Russian Spy. Baroness Moura Budberg was a Russian born noblewoman whom, according to legend, became a Russian and British spy. Her life was filled with shadowy entanglements and glamorous liaisons. Moura was linked to some of early 20th century Europe's most famous men. Having had a contentious affair with British spy R. H. Brue Lockhart which landed both of them in jail, and later being a lover to both H. G. Wells and Maxim Gorky. Living during the height of the Russian Revolution, her life had all the key ingredients need for a Hollywood classic and in 1934 her relationship with British spy R. H. Bruce Lockhart was turned into a Hollywood film, by the director of Casablanca.Today it is hard to distinguish between fact and fiction when it comes to the Moura Budberg legend, manly because Moura herself created most of it. Her extraordinary life is a reflection of a romantic era in time, when the two worlds of socialism and capitalism collided. Moura is a symbol of those women who always managed to survive, no matter what. According to friends of Moura's, spying was about nothing more then surviving and socialising.
