| Summary |
"Jan Woudstra is a Reader in Landscape History and Theory at the University of Sheffield, where he has taught since 1995. Following his training in landscape planning in the Netherlands and horticulture at Kew, Jan Woudstra continued at the Institute of Advanced Architectural Studies and the University of York, where he completed his MA with a thesis on groves, entitled 'The wilderness in seventeenth and early eighteenth century gardens: history and conservation case studies'. He then joined Travers Morgan as a landscape consultant, being involved in a range of projects, primarily relating to landscape history and conservation. In 1993 he set up EDA Environmental Design Associates, continuing a similar range of work. At the same time as professional employment, he taught at the Architectural Association, London at the two-year part-time postgraduate course 'Conservation of historic landscapes, parks and gardens'. He holds a PhD from the Department of Geography, University College London, with a thesis entitled 'Landscape for Living; garden theory and design of the Modern Movement'. Colin Roth is an interdisciplinary specialist in the psychology of aesthetics. His primary research field is in Danish culture through the 'long' nineteenth century, and his articles have appeared in the Royal Library Copenhagen's journals Fund og Forskning and Carl Nielsen Studies, more recently in a sequence for food professionals in Chef magazine. He has been a regular lecturer at the Tate and the Royal Academy of Arts. His editorial work began in the 1980s with the first Journal of the Derby Porcelain International Society, since when his wide disciplinary range has enabled him to work across the fields of musicology and ballet, art history, architecture and landscape. He is currently co-director of the Centre for Nordic Studies at the University of Sheffield."--Provided by publisher |
