Summary |
This spectacular series continues, as British garden writer and presenter Monty Don, lands in Australia and New Zealand - two of the youngest gardening cultures in the world - on the second leg of his incredible global journey visiting 80 of the world's most celebrated and stunning gardens, from ancient to modern, large to small, and grand to humble.Monty sets out from the aptly named Botany Bay to uncover a story of culture clash and invasion, where the gentle habits of the Indigenous people and the extraordinary natural landscapes have been dashed aside in favour of imported plants and a very 'English' garden style. He visits Alice Springs Desert Park, a re-creation of the natural habitat, and a private garden in Sydney that emulates that rich, red earth. During his visit he gets a private tour from Dame Elisabeth Murdoch of her beautiful Melbourne garden. In New Zealand, he sets off in search of the wild heart of the country, where he revels in a magical rainforest garden created entirely of native plants. Highlights in this episode include: Botany Bay, The Royal Sydney Botanical Gardens, the Alice Springs Desert Park, Dame Elisabeth Murdoch's garden in Melbourne and two stunning gardens in the North Island of New ZealandPRODUCTION DETAILS:10 x 60 minutes.
