Summary |
The final part to the series turns its attention to the United States, where pop music and videos are still heavily censored for containing overtly sexual content, explore taboos or use graphic language. Musicians such as Frank Zappa and Marilyn Manson fought against this censorship and argued for artistic freedom and their right to be offensive. Sex'n Pop looks at how the shock factor was increased when music turned to punk and from there to even more aggressive rock. Work by J. G. Thirlwell, depicts dark and disturbing images of sex and war, the German group, Die Ärzte, sing about violence as a turn-on and Rockbitch promotes an extremely aggressive female sexuality. These artists have broken through the barriers of taboo and embraced untouchable subjects within the world of pop. (From Germany, in English and German, with English subtitles) |
