Fenella Kernebone profiles visual artist Shaun Gladwell; 14 artists consider the concept of wilderness; 'My Secret Art Life' finds a secret romance writer; and Bridezilla performs.This week on Art Nation Fenella Kernebone looks at a major exhibition featuring Shaun Gladwell's presentation at the 2009 Venice Biennale and at new work commissioned by the Campbelltown Art Centre in Sydney.Interior Linework/Interceptor Intersection is a solo exhibition that brings together a selection of Gladwell's work from his Maddestmaximvs project along with significant new work commissions. The Maddestmaximvs project began in 2007 with a series of recorded performances located in the Australian hinterland. It has since developed into a comprehensive body of work comprising video, sculpture, painting, photography and installation and was most recently exhibited in the Australian Pavilion at the 53rd Venice Biennale, 2009. Gladwell links personal experience with contemporary culture and historical references through performance, video, painting, photography and sculpture. His works engage these mediums through forms of urban expression such as skateboarding, hip-hop, graffiti, BMX bike riding, break-dancing and other extreme sports. Art Nation also visits the Art Gallery of NSW to consider the concept of wilderness. Fourteen contemporary painters have delved into imaginary regions and psychological reactions rather than observed landscapes. The truly wild things here are the works of the artists.This week, My Secret Art Life, which looks at people's hidden passions, tells the story of Alison, a senior executive by day and a writer of historical romance novels by night under a pseudonym.
