Summary The Mission is a four-part documentary series by the team who produced the extremely popular series The Abbey for Compass. The Mission is the story of missionaries in reverse, as three young Nigerian Catholic priests, who haven't volunteered, who have never left Africa before, are sent to save Tasmania's struggling Church. But can they fulfil The Mission? The series follows the young missionary priests as they travel from Equatorial Africa, Nigeria to Australia's island State, Tasmania. We journey with them from their arrival on Hobart's coldest winter day, to their assignments in the remote corners of the state. It's a rollercoaster ride of faith, dedication and culture shock. Follow the missionaries from day one of their three-year mission, to the end of their first year in Tasmania. Never before has the Catholic Church allowed such access to the behind-the-scenes world of the missionary, both in Nigeria and Australia. In episode one, Fathers Christopher, Felix and Kene arrive in Tasmania on its coldest winter's day. Fr Brian takes us behind the scenes into the Catholic priesthood as he welcomes the three Nigerian missionaries into his Presbytery, where they'll stay for their first four weeks. It's a whirlwind of 'enculturation' Tassie style as the three young Fathers encounter Tasmanian Devils, colonial villages, snowfields, and the even colder reality of elderly congregations in largely empty churches with an aging local priesthood. The first four weeks are up and Tasmania's Archbishop Doyle sends the Nigerian Fathers off to work with his overstretched Aussie priests.
