Summary There are many books on design. About meaningful compositions and image analysis, the golden ratio or the theory of proportions. The author Tom Moog has a completely different, new approach. He developed a principle that can be applied to all areas of design: order, contrast and reduction. It shows that good design is actually "only" based on these three factors. If you orient yourself towards them, successful design practically results by itself. The basis of this universal theory of good design is its schematic content. The first "sieve", the order excludes what is not structured. The middle "sieve", the contrast, only lets through what is exciting and interesting. The conceptually most important thing is the reduction, because it brings the content to the point. As the bottom "sieve", the reduction only lets through what is content and was formally reduced to the essentials. The content of the book is divided into three parts. In the first part, the author explains the terms order, contrast and reduction in general as well as specifically applied to the design. The second part looks at how these three factors are mutually dependent and supportive. Tom Moog dedicates the third part to eleven outstanding personalities to illustrate his design principle
