Allan Cunnningham, government botanist at the Sydney Botanic Garden in the early 19th century, is known for his exploration of inland NSW. In 1830 his botanical investigations took him to the convict settlement of Norfolk Island. A keen observer, Cunningham documented his visit to the island in his journal, published in full here for the first time
