Description 1 online resource (streaming video file) (49 min.)
Summary Originally broadcast on The History Channel UK, Charging Into History has been described by critics as ""the definitive documentary on battle re-enactors and living historians."" It proved a ratings and critical success, and was shortlisted for the Longman/History Today documentary prize. Charging into History looks at the controversy that re-enactor groups have raised with academics, veterans and war survivors over the proper remembrance of conflict, violence and interpretation of times past. Featuring in-depth interviews with academics and historians, both supporters and critics of living history, including Dr Mark Connelly, an historian at the University of Kent and writer on popular culture, Howard Giles, the former director of English Heritage's History In Action program and now M.D. of Event Plan, and Dr. Adam Smith of University College London, and author of The American Civil War
