Summary This case challenges students to evaluate the Chinese Ballet's choice to stream their Nutcracker production on YouTube and consider how to best manage and present digital cultural performances. Chinese New Year is known as a festival for family reunions, cultural participation, and experiencing enrichment in contemporary global society. In 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic challenged the normal celebration of Chinese New Year across the world. Festival organisers had to move celebration events and activities onto social media. During the Chinese New Year 2021, the Chinese Ballet production Nutcracker was streamed on the YouTube channel of the National Ballet of China. Following Tchaikovsky's music for classical ballet, the production integrates the activities of celebrating Chinese New Year through choreography, which creates a festive atmosphere for virtual celebration. Digital platforms make it possible for touring performances to reach and serve a wider audience. However, they can be less intimate than live, in-person performances, and remain out of reach to those without a strong Internet connection
