This nail-biting special goes behind the scenes of the critically-acclaimed feature length documentary, The Wildest Dream - Conquest Of Everest (Sunday, August 21st at 8.30pm on ABC1).The Wildest Dream follows renowned mountaineer Conrad Anker as he retraces British explorer George Mallory's final attempt in 1924 to be the first person to reach the summit of Mount Everest.But how do you shoot a drama documentary on Everest? It is one of the most inhospitable environments on Earth and nearly one in 14 people who attempt the summit die on the mountain.Everest: Shooting the Impossible follows Conrad Anker's nail-biting ascent up the North East Ridge with a 30-strong team specially selected for their filmmaking and climbing skills.As the team climbs to the 29,029 foot (8,848 metre) summit they must keep filming all the way but their attempt on Everest makes huge demands on the climbers. They have to spend significant amounts of time in the 'death zone', the area above 26,000 feet where, cell by cell, the body begins to die.Soon altitude sickness forces some to leave the mountain and weather conditions cause equipment failure.
