It's 40 years since the end of the Vietnam War... and 40 years since the refugees who fled began to settle in Australia. On Tuesday, Dateline follows two brothers from a refugee family as they retrace the experience of their parents and realise the impact the war had on so many lives including their own.Joe Le was born in a Malaysian refugee camp and ultimately raised by his mother and stepfather in Cabramatta in Sydney's western suburbs. Amid the turbulence facing his war-torn family, he became mixed up in gangs and drugs. He's got his life back on track, but still has many questions about where he comes from and who is the father he is never met.In this special episode of Dateline, Catherine Scott travels with Joe and his brother Jack on an emotional journey to Vietnam in search of his dad and answers about their family's past.Can Joe find him and will they finally be united? How will this change his perception of a country he's never known? And what will he discover about himself, his history and his family? |
