Summary In the early 1900s Swedish Scientist, Eric Mjoberg set off to the Kimberley region of Western Australia in an attempt to prove his human evolution theory. What he didn't know was that his expedition would have dire repercussions for years to follow for the Indigenous people of Australia, and himself. Whilst in Western Australia, Mjoberg became obsessed with the Aboriginal people, and what started off as collecting native flora and fauna for research, soon lead to the desecration of sacred burial grounds and the smuggling of human remains back to Sweden. The consequences of Mjoberg's actions and his disregard for the sacred practices of the Indigenous people of Australia ensured that spirits were not put at rest until 2004, when the human remains were finally returned to the Kimberley."I was drawn to Dark Science because I was interested in exploring the complex clash of two cultures and how one man became obsessed with another's culture to the point of no return." said co-director of the documentary, Warwick Thornton.World renowned Australian actor Jack Thompson provides the narration for the story which allows the viewer to follow the expedition leader Eric Mjoberg and his team on their blighted journey. Shot in remote regions of the Kimberley in Australia and in Stockholm and Varberg Sweden, Dark Science uses diary sources, stunning black and white footage from the expedition and excerpts from Mjoberg's novel Wings of Poison to provide a shocking glimpse into the mind of early 20th century Western man.The film is co-directed by Swedish Director Johan Gabrielsson and Aboriginal filmmaker Warwick Thornton.
